I have never liked those who dictate to others. I have rallied against that
attitude my whole life. I have never slavishly followed a fashion trend or style
because it is currently considered in vogue.
I do not like it when others tell me I can't do something and hate it even
more when they go on to do exactly what they told me I could not.
I have and always will be a free spirit. It would appear that I have
chosen a care free path, but it is not. I have butted heads with some who
like to have their own way and then insist that others agree with them.
I march to my own drummer. I never just accept, but always question.
I like the state of New Hampshire's motto:
Live Free or Die
Thankfully we live in a country where we are still free to choose our own
path, and hope that will always be so. I hope that some of my attitude lives
in your hearts as well. It's not an easy path, but the journey is so much more
rewarding when you live your life free of silly rules.
Now, obviously there are rules that are necessary to protect the rights and
lives and property of others. I am not suggesting in any way that those rules be
ignored. But there are superficial rules that dominate our society that only
benefit those who create them. Decorating rules for example. I have always
told my clients that their homes are their castles. Choose the colors that make
YOU happy. Do what makes your heart sing when you walk through your door.
Just keep in mind that there will always be bullies who stroke their own egos by
convincing others of their choices. Don't let it happen to you.
Blaze your own trail. Put your blinders on and follow your own bliss.
Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
PS: Here is a warning about the silliness of slavishly following fashion trends ~
remember the padded shoulders and hairstyles of the 80's? Didn't work for
everyone!

I don't miss the shoulder pads, but I do miss the big hair! ;P
ReplyDeleteWhen I am Queen of the World, I will ban flatirons because they are dangerous!
I love your posts on this blog, Susan.
Sadly, it seems we live in a world filled with bullies of one sort or another....and it is getting worse! Whatever happened to tolerance, respect, diversity, manners? People who insist on trying to force their opinions and beliefs on to every one they meet, make me angry. I have my own path and it is working just fine for me! So LEAVE ME ALONE! My response to those who insist on pushing me is to push right back. I find that as I've gotten older, I am more and more willing to take on the bullies of my world and I care less and less about what others think of me. "Live free or die." Oh yeah!
ReplyDeleteIts unfortunate that adult still allow themselves to by bullied, but thats because they were'nt trained not to allow it in childhood and through their teens. I wont even get started on the massive amount of lambs following "what others say is truth"..
ReplyDeleteI wish Love and Freedom for all and I hope they seek it as it surely wont come looking for them.
Susan, I totally agree with you. I pretty much march to my own tune. My home is a mix of everything that WE enjoy. I could care less what the latest decorating trend is and I could care less if someone tells me "you can't do that". I do it anyway and, if I fail, at least I have tried. I dress as I feel and will always do so. I don't listen to the dictators, I ignore them and smile and walk away, all the while knowing that I am doing what is right for me and my family. Love this post~!
